Youth Mentor Program

Assisting older Australians with digital literacy in North West Queensland

The Youth Mentor Program is an intergenerational digital literacy initiative run under the Australian Government’s Be Connected network. It pairs 16–21 year-old mentors with Australians over 50 who have low or no digital skills, fostering mutual learning and social connection.

    Improve Digital Skills

Our tailored, in-person mentoring sessions guide Australians over 50 through the essentials of modern technology—device basics, internet navigation and everyday online tasks like email, video calls and web forms—so they gain hands-on confidence and stay connected in an increasingly digital world.

    Enable Independence

By demystifying common hurdles—understanding devices, troubleshooting and recognising scams — and providing follow-up support, we empower participants to manage their digital lives autonomously and securely.

    Reduce Loneliness

Teaching seniors to use communication apps not only opens new channels for family and social engagement but also creates lasting intergenerational friendships between learners and their young mentors.
