Dr. William E. (Bill) Miles
Bill Miles holds a B. Mus. Ed. (Wind and Percussion) from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a M. A. (Prelim.) from LaTrobe University majoring in composition and analysis, and a PhD in Music Education from Monash University. He has lectured at Melbourne, Monash, RMIT and Australian Catholic University (ACU). From 2006-2015 Bill ran the Graduate Diploma of Education and Master of Teaching-Secondary (Music) course at ACU–Melbourne and from 2011 to his retirement in 2018 he lectured in music pedagogy at the Sir Zelman Cowen School of Music, Monash University. He also designed and lectured Business Systems for Multimedia and the Entertainment Industries in the IT faculty at Monash University (1999-2005).
Bill was Chairperson of the Examination Setting Panels and one of the Chief Assessors for the Victorian Certificate of Education Music Performance (Solo & Group) study designs (1995-2010) and for the Music: History & Styles study design (1995-2003). Through those years Bill was a member of the Curriculum Review and Curriculum Design Panels for these music study designs, has been a performance assessor from 1993 to the present, and a VCE-VET Music Industry (Performance) assessor from its inception to the present. Since 1996 he has performed various roles for the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma music subjects, including examiner, examinations vetter and the External Advisor–Music.
Currently Bill is a committee member of Kids’ Conference, the Monash Youth Music Festival/ Waverley Eisteddfod Inc. and Music Matinee Inc., is the musical director of Vocally Wild based in the Melbourne suburb of Beaumaris, and presents Sunday Night Late from 10 ‘til midnight every week on 3MBS, Fine Music Melbourne.

Dr Sharon Lierse
Sharon Lierse has a PhD in Education, a Global MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. She has worked as a university lecturer in Australia and Asia, a management consultant and as an international curriculum specialist for UNESCO. Her academic roles have included Associate Professor in the Faculty of Music and Performing Arts in Malaysia where she was founder and Managing Editor of the Malaysian Music Journal, lecturer in curriculum at the University of Tasmania, lecturer in Arts Education at Charles Darwin University and Manager of Professional Learning at the Australian Council for Educational Research. She has published widely and has given conference presentations around the world including keynote presentations in Europe and Asia. Dr Lierse’s areas of specialty are in arts education, curriculum development, assessment, online learning, sustainability, and excellence in education where she is passionate in promoting educational excellence through working where there is a need for access and opportunity.
Dr Lierse has been on several board and committees including Women Chiefs of Enterprises International (Australia), Editors Victoria, and the City of Boroondara Eisteddfod Advisory Committee. She is excited to be on the Board for Creative Bytes where she can share her knowledge and experience in order to make a positive difference in the community.

Dr Joel Crotty
Dr Joel Crotty has been associated with tertiary music teaching and higher degree supervision for many decades. Coupled with academia he has been associated with the Australian arts industry through membership of various committees and boards of management. Currently he is the Chair, Astra Chamber Music Society as well as being actively involved in the Melbourne Composers’ League. His previous commitments include the Australian Music Centre and Contemporary Music Events. In arts journalism he has been a music critic for Herald Sun, The Age, Opera (UK), and Vivid (Romania) as well as being the music editor for Sing Out (Australian National Choral Association) and he is currently a regular contributor to On Air (3MBS subscribers’ magazine).
